Other than USA and Japan, none of the developed nations have the technological edge?

asked:

In several areas of technology and innovation, the USA and Japan (and to some extent, Germany and Sweden too) are far ahead than the rest of the world. And we never hear about any technological invention come out of the UK or Australia or Canada or France or China.

How come USA and Japan are far more technologically advanced than the other developed nations in the world?

What would happen the USA were to impose an Embargo with both China and Russia?

El Derado asked:

Lets say it absolutely had to be done in order for us to maintain control over a conflict.

How could the USA compensate for the massive quantity of imports that come in from China?

Also what effects would this have on the rest of the world?

Would this be an effective non militant way of gaining control over a cold conflict? Why or Why not? Would the USA have to use military forces as a result of this action?

What would happen if the USA de-valued its currency on purpose to increase its exports?

R B asked:

China lowers the international value of its currency so that its exports are super-cheap! The USA used to have currency backed by gold (see the Bretton Woods Agreements) but now market fundamentals MAY finally be catching up with the USA. (Maybe. Maybe not.) Exporting more than we import would certainly help the economy in the long term.
